Artist Statement: I am a fiber artist working mostly with hand dyed and batik fabric and beads of all sorts. Nature is my primary subject, with a particular liking to landscapes. Often times , there is nothing planned until I start laying fabrics out and then the subject takes shape.

I also design jewelry and participate in a variety of other art mediums when the creative bug bites.

Publications: I have been in several publications including, Quilting Arts, and Art Doll Quarterly.

Exhibits :I have multiple awards for my work, including CDAA~Canadian Doll Artist Association, as well as several Voter's Choice for various competitions.

Artist Statement: I am a surface design artist, obsessed with altering fabric in any way possible. My concentrations include Thermofax screen printing, mono printing, stamping, soy wax batik and anything and everything paint related.

I belive that art is a journey and anything is possible - the only thing you need to do is take your first step.

Publications: I have been published several times in Quilting Arts, Cloth Paper Scissors and Sew Somerset magazines. I have a workshop DVD with Interweave, "Print Design Compose", which walks you through designing an abstract art quilt from start to finish. I write a column for Quilting Arts focusing on fiber art groups and the sense of community that comes with our art form.

Artist Statement: I make art quilts. I love color and texture, but my favorite part of the work is stitching: free motion quilting, free motion embroidery, and hand stitching. To achieve texture, I like to use different kinds of fabric and paper, including painted canvas.

Where my work can be found: Through November 2012, two of my pieces can be seen at the City Hall in Farmington Hills, MI, as part of an "art in public places" project. In April 2012, some of my work will be exhibited at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, FL.

Achievements: My work has been accepted at a number of juried shows locally and nationally. The piece shown above, Joie de Créer, was shown at "Quilts=Art=Quilts" at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center, Auburn, NY, in 2010. I am also the SAQA co-rep for Michigan.

Artist Statement: I create Plushies, otherwise known as Huggable Art. I enjoy creating toys that make people smile. I grew up helping my Oma (German for grandmother) with local charity organizations and it shaped me into the person I am today. Even though she is no longer with me I still continue to share what we started together, giving comfort to others in little ways. I love to see people smile when they see my toys; it is what drives me to continue on the path I have chosen for my art, the huggable kind.

When I create a toy I think about how people will feel when they see it. While working on a sketch or with the fabric I try to bring it to life in a way that will affect others in a positive manner. I keep most of my toys safe for little ones by using safety eyes and embroidery to avoid choking hazards. I love how the light reflects off of safety eyes to give them a bit of life, or an embroidered crooked smile makes them a bit mischievous. By keeping the toys kid friendly they can be a great comfort for all ages, because no matter how old we are there is still a little kid in each of us. The use of fabric and fibers helps keep the toys huggable, we all need a hug with a special friend from time to time.

Artist Statement: I am a mixed media fiber artist. My non-traditional cloth and mixed media creations incorporate hand dyed, commercial & vintage fabrics, drawing & painting, hand & machine stitching, Thermofax screen printing, metal embossing, and whatever else sparks my imagination.

The fundamentals from which I create my pieces are my studio art and graphic design degrees. I combine these with the raw materials of my experience as a professional graphic designer and as a mother, wife and homemaker.

For me, creating art hasn't been a hobby, its been a need. No matter what limited resources I have at my disposal - tools, supplies, techniques, and (most elusively) time - JI am able to turn them into something the world has never seen before.

Artist Statement: My work is a combination of many different mediums and techniques. While I come from primarily a fiber art background, recently I have been experimenting with the idea of incorporating re-purposed and household items into my work.

When I am in my studio, I fell no sense of time or obligation. I only feel the need to express my ideas. There are times when it feels like I have more designs in my head than I have sketchbooks to fill. I felt a true freedom when I realized that I could add glass, metal, beads and other embellishments to my "fiber art" pieces. What was long considered "woman's work" is finally starting to receive the attention and merit it has always deserved. This is such a wonderful time to be an artist!

Artist Statement: I make art quilts to capture a particular feeling of special moments, places and people.

Creating art quilts and other mixed media art is a soulful need. Most of my work begins with an inspiration photograph which I have more of than time!

My inner voice always tells me when, where and how to create – most often I work in my studio, a former bedroom converted to a bright and happy space Living in Michigan, I relish the days that I can create outside! I use a variety of materials - primarily batiks and hand dyed fabrics, tulle, a variety of threads, yarns, acrylic paint and found objects. I enjoy experimenting with new processes, sharing and learning from other artists. My work conveys a feeling of peacefulness and serenity.

My art defines me, drives me, pushes me to try new things and gives me an avenue to share my love of teaching. I teach workshops in landscape art quilt design and construction locally and in Northern Michigan.

Artist Statement: My favorite color is Multicolor. I have a visceral reaction to color. When I see beautiful colors, I have an urge to taste and feel them. Making art is my way of playing with all the colors.

I work in Fibers, making Art Quilts. My work is intuitive, I don’t know what it will look like, until it’s done. Along the way, bits of music, poetry, and memories are worked into each piece. Songs go spinning in my brain as I sew. When you look at the things I make, I hope you can feel the joy.

Exhibits: I have exhibited quilts in the International Quilt Festival in 2006 to 2011, and in the Glass City Quilt Show in 2004. I have had solo shows at Two Twelve Arts, in Saline, Michigan, in Jan. and Feb of 2006, 2008, and 2011.

Publications: The Detroit News and Free Press presented my work in March of 2009. And the Heritage Newspapers did a feature article on my quilts in Southeast Michigan papers, in March 2009.

Artist Statement: Starting with an early influence from women in my family who loved smocking, needlepoint, embroidery, and making clothes, it was a natural progression into this passion I have for mixed media wall art.

I simply love being able to use all of the options that the fiber world has to offer, to build a piece that will bring pleasure and curiosity to the viewer.

Exhibits: "Rare-Remote-Irreplacable" won Best in Show; "Dragonflies of the Desert" won First Place Award at the 2011 "Festival of the Arts" Nativity Episcopal Church.

Running through the end of 2011 I am showing 21 pieces at Oakwood Hospital, Dearborm MI in their main galley "Art for the Spirit".
